The “Dirty” Parineeta

Vidya Balan, daughter of P.R Balan, was born in 1978 in Kerala.  She started he career starring in music videos, commercials, before marching towards Bollywood.

Vidya’s performance in her Bollywood debut movie ‘Parineeta’ (2005) was much acclaimed by the critics and earned her ‘Filmfare Best Female Debut Award’.  Interestingly, she had to undergo 17 make – up shoots and 40 screen tests before being chosen for this role.

Vidya never looked back from there and played variety of available characters in the films such as ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ (2006), ‘Guru’ (2007), ‘Hey Babyy’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiya (both 2008)’. Her movie ‘Eklavya : The Royal Guard’ (2007), which grossed over Rs. 18 Cr, was selected as India’s Official entry to Oscars for the 80th Academy Awards.

Vidya’s portrayal of a single mother of a child (played by Amitabh Bachchan) suffering from Progeria Syndrome in ‘Paa’ fetched her Filmfare Award for ‘Best Actress’. She is currently riding high on the success of ‘Dirty Picture’ and has supposedly increased her fees by a hefty Rs. 1 Cr.
