‘Agneepath’ (1990)

‘Agneepath’ may have been remade, but the original film remains unfazed in our minds. The original characters of ‘Vijay Dinanath Chauhan’ and ‘Kancha Cheena’ are immortal! Surprisingly the film that has attained a cult status, bombed at the box office. Danny Denzongpa, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Neelam, Rohini Hattangadi and Vikram Gokhale were a part of the cast.

 
Here we have a few interesting facts about the film:
Amitabh Bachchan who played the lead role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and Mithun Chakraborty who essayed the role of Krishnan Iyer both won National Awards for their stellar performances in the film.

Amitabh Bachhcan for the first time in his career delivered his dialogues in a different voice.

The film was inspired by renowned poet and Amitabh Bachchan’s father, Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan with the same name.

Tinnu Anand had to shave off his head for a convincing look and bring out the age difference between him and Amitabh Bachchan in the film in which he played Amitabh’s uncle.

Amitabh Bachchan’s mouth was stuffed with cotton to give him a gangster look, similar to that of Marlon Brando in The Godfather.

 
Mithun Chakraborty’s unique role of Kishnan Iyer was inspired by one of his room-mates of his struggling days, before he become a popular film star. In his struggling days Mithun shared a room with Devio who paid Rs.150 while Mithun paid half the amount. Devio slept on a bed while Mithun slept on the floor. Once Mithun used Devio’s bed while he was at work and when Devio came back he scolded Mithun. This incident remained with Mithun and he put Devio’s character on screen.
